Tuesday night's episode of "Chopped" offered four moms an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion in this episode where the chefs were given items in the three mystery boxes in this episode titled, “Mother’s Day”
Competing in this episode are: Sunny Hostin, a CNN legal analyst from New York City, Tia Adams, a single mom from Roscoe, N.Y., Lisa Keys from Kennett Square, Pa., a retired physician and Samantha McLerran, a doctor and farmer’s wife from Moss, Tenn.
The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Chicken Noodle Soup, Ground Beef, Spinach and Salsa. Lisa made Italian-Mexican meatballs using eggs, garlic and bread crumbs. Sunny made Beef Wonton using garlic, cilantro and soy sauce. Samantha made spiced meatballs with chicken noodle soup spinach using onion, sriracha and red pepper flakes. Tina made ‘East Meets Latin’ slider using coriander, cumin and curry. The mother who was chopped in this round was Samantha, because her beef was overcooked.
The entree round contained: Tilapia Fillets, Plantains, Crispy Fruit Cereal and Pink Grapefruit Jam. Sunny made tostones with pan-seared tilapia using lemon, garlic and parsley. Tina made Asian tilapia with Technicolor tempura using eggs, flour and soy sauce. Lisa made Caitlin’s favorite crispy fish using oregano, paprika and Dijon. The mom who was "Chopped" in this round was Tina because her plantains were very undercooked.
The dessert round included: Passion Fruit, Dates, Lady Fingers and Chocolate Sauce. Sunny made coquito two ways using coconut milk, condensed milk and heavy cream. Lisa made Sweet William’s fancy cookie using butter, sugar and eggs.
The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" Mother’s Day champion was Lisa, whose son William is smiling down upon her. She will use the money to take her husband and daughter Caitlin to Italy for a great vacation. Happy Mother’s Day to the four participants and judge Alex Guarnaschelli!
