‘Chopped’ chefs get 'An Egg Up’ on Food Network

On a recent episode of "Chopped" offered four more chefs an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion in this episode where the chefs were given items in the three mystery boxes in this episode titled, “An Egg Up.”

The judges for this episode were: Geoffrey Zakarian, Amanda Freitag and special guest judge, Silvena Rowe with host, as always Ted Allen.

Competing in this episode are: George Rallis, co-owner of Hell Gate Social in Astoria, N.Y., Jeremy Bringardner chef at Lyfe Kitchen in Culver City, Calif., Nissa Pierson founder of Ger-Nis Culinary and Roderick Bailey chef-owner of The Silly Goose in Nashville, Tenn.

The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Pork Secreto, 100-year-old Eggs, Red Leaf Lettuce, Onion Ring Snacks. George made pork lettuce wrap with pickled vegetables using sour cream, carrots and red peppers. Jeremy made Thai-Vietnamese seasoned pork secreto using celery, cucumbers and red peppers. Roderick made cumin & coriander-crusted secreto using red peppers and cilantro. Nissa made chipotle pork tacos with fried 100-year-old egg using lime juice, smoked paprika and canned chipolates. The chef eliminated in this round was Roderick because he forgot his eggs.

The entree round contained: Halibut, Herbed Cheese, Asparagus, Mango Pudding. Jeremy made pan-seared halibut with herbed cheese asparagus using potatoes, shallots and white wine. George made pan-seared halibut with butter glazed asparagus using potatoes, butter and shallots. Nissa made pink peppercorn poached halibut with asparagus salad using bread crumbs, arugula and shallots. The chef who was "Chopped" in this round was Nissa because she over-poached her fish.

The dessert round included: Sea Buckthorn Juice, Waffle Cones, Vanilla Yogurt Cups, Lime Curd. Jeremy made spicy sea buckthorn sorbet with vanilla yogurt curd using cucumbers, cayenne and honey. George made key lime pie with buckthorn juice caramel using berries, heavy cream and bourbon.

The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" champion was Jeremy Bringardner, who overcame lots of obstacles to change his ways and become a healthy chef.
