Worship takes many forms. After all, it's only the adoration of what we truly love. The question is, who, or what, do we truly love?
"Woe to the complacent in Zion! Lying upon beds of ivory, stretched comfortably on their couches, they eat lambs taken from the flock, and calves from the stall...They drink wine from bowls and anoint themselves with the best oils; yet they are not made ill by the collapse of Joseph!" Amos 6:1, 4-7
Whether greedy Capitalists, or phony Socialists, many a man and woman in American makes their fortune, and builds their fame, off the back of the impoverished citizen. Many preach the false gospel of 'compassion' while either promoting products for 'enjoyment' such as pornography, or promoting procedures for 'reproductive rights' like abortion. Both kill in spirit and body. But what do they care? They profit, and who cares about 'the collapse of Joseph' (in the ordinary American) anyway?
"The fatherless and the widow he sustains, but the way of the wicked he thwarts." Psalm 146:6-10
Every personal, and unfortunate, human experiment in utter desolation has found but One Compassionate Person who truly cares for the totally rejected person in their inglorious mess...that Person being the Merciful Lord who hung Gloriously upon His inglorious Cross. If you've never been the rejected one, never been an utter mess, you probably won't understand this paragraph. But if you've ever fallen so low as to be the underbelly of the bottom-scum of the proverbial barrel, you know exactly what I mean. No man, or woman, good or bad, is Savior. Eventually they run out of patience or resources, or both.
Only JESUS saves!
"Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called...keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ...the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light..." 1 Timothy 6:11-16
We, therefore, have a choice, a vital choice, who we pledge our allegiance to, each and every day. Either we choose the Almighty God, who paradoxically calls us to love through humility, or we choose puny gods and diva's who call us to self-gratification in pride and lust, and worship of their fleeting cult. What will we choose? The God--who blesses us with practiced patience--in 'unapproachable light,' or phony divinities --who let us skirt integrity building patience--in cheap 'flash bulb' moments of popular meaninglessness?
"Then Abraham said, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'" Luke 16:19-31
The kicker is, everyone has a chance to see, and choose, the light! Everyone has prophets and religious guru's with at least a sliver of truth in their dogma's. There are no pure atheists in the foxhole of Life. For the Holy Spirit searches every crevice of human experience, ever seeking to work with every shred of truth, pointing to the ultimate Truth in Jesus Christ. That is why Christians, and Catholics in particular, carry the heaviest burden on Judgment Day. For we have 'Moses' and 'the prophets' and that special 'someone' who rose from the dead! Discipleship in Christ, therefore, is the victory of free will (graced from God) in choosing Christ Jesus over god or diva.
And the wonderful reward the world receives in our choice is the Mercy and compassion of God conquering the utilitarian enslavement which only a false god can bring.
