Choose to lose (weight that is)

Do you feel like you’re destined to live a life of being overweight, maybe even obese? Does it seem that no matter how hard you try to drop those extra pounds, they always seem to find their way back - often, bringing their friends with them?

There’s no greater slam to your determination and drive than feeling like your physical shape is beyond your control. When it seems like you can’t lose weight no matter how hard you try, it’s difficult to find the momentum to keep going. But, you can change your ability to be the person you so desperately want to be, simply by removing two very small words from your vocabulary.

A lot of times, people fail to stick with healthy eating or exercise plans because they feel like they have to do them. Have you ever said, “Geez, I’d love that piece of pizza, but I have to eat this salad instead”? What about, “No. I can’t go out to get drinks with you after work because I have to go to the gym”?

If so, then you’ve conditioned yourself to believe that losing weight is a chore. It’s something that should be dreaded because it’s forced upon you. No wonder you’re having difficulties. You've come to hate the very things you need to do to get where you’d like to be.

However, the reality of the situation is much different than your perception of it. You don’t have to do anything. You can continue to eat the way you eat and be inactive and no one can say otherwise. Or, you can choose to make positive changes so that you finally reach your goals and achieve your dreams.

The next time you turn something down because you are making healthy lifestyle changes, switch your “have to” to “choose to” and see how different it feels. For instance, it’s a completely different statement to say, “I have to avoid fries because I want to lose weight” and “I choose to avoid fries because I want to lose weight.” It’s much more self-empowering, don’t you think?

Approach weight loss from a position of authority and you’ll soon reach your goals. All of them.
