Maybe you've had chocolate wine and been less than thrilled with it. Some commercial chocolate wines seem like some sort of Yoo-hoo like concoction that doesn't resemble wine at all and is way too sweet. At Willow Creek Winery in Chautauqua, NY, the making of chocolate wine is a serious endeavor. The chocolate is fermented and treated just as the wine is and the two are blended together for a deep red velvety dessert wine experience.
Willow Creek offers two versions of it's chocolate wine. The drier version is Chautauqua Chocolate. It's flavor is reminiscent of enjoying Zinfandel and dark chocolate together. The deep berry flavors of the wine combine pleasingly with the dark, nutty flavor of the chocolate. It is a perfect after dinner drink. The sweeter option, Chocolate Temptations, although very sweet, still maintains the rich, nutty flavor of the chocolate with much sweeter fruit flavors. If you are a sweet wine lover, this is an enjoyable wine. If you prefer drier wines, Chautauqua Chocolate offers plenty of sweetness.
