Summer temperatures have heated up bringing steamy days and nights. Fortunately July is National Ice Cream Month giving us the perfect excuse to indulge in our favorite frozen treats! If you happen to live in New York City or are visiting for your summer vacation, there are some interesting places to get a scoop or two of your favorite flavors as local chocolate shops have turned into ice cream parlors for the summertime.

For the first time in its 155 year history, luxury Belgian chocolatier Neuhaus is dishing out ice cream, gelato, sorbets and sundaes topped with their world-famous rich chocolate at their Madison Avenue flagship boutique To feature their decadent dark and smooth milk melted chocolate, tempering machines have been installed to maintain the perfect texture for filling cones and topping sundaes. Neuhaus offers five exquisite ice cream flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Pistachio, Gianduja and Salted Caramel; plus Toasted Almond and Mocha gelato; and Passionfruit and Raspberry sorbet. A mouthwatering “flavor of the month” will also be featured, starting with White Chocolate gelato with bourbon vanilla and white chocolate chunks in July. All varieties can be enjoyed in cups, or waffle cones that are filled with melted Neuhaus chocolate before adding a scoop on top. ($6 regular, $8 large)

For a sundae that only Neuhaus can deliver, made right in front of you, start with a pastry base, choosing from a warm, crispy Belgian Waffle or Petits-Choux, a European puff pastry flavored with bourbon vanilla, and top with ice cream, gelato or even sorbet. Next, drizzle with decadent warm Neuhaus milk or dark chocolate sauce and toppings featured in their iconic pralines like raspberry pieces, speculoos, chocolate and caramel sprinkles, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios and whipped cream ($9/$11 waffle with ice cream, $10 petit choux, $9 bouché). The boutique will also serve cold chocolate beverages available in smooth, delicate Milk Chocolate with 32% cocoa content; decadent, intense Dark Chocolate with 52% cocoa content; and Jean Neuhaus Signature Chocolate, a 70% cocoa dark chocolate delight named for the company’s founder. Stop in at 500 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10021 and cool off with one of these decadent ice cream treats!

Satisfying chocolate cravings since 2002, MarieBelle™ New York founded by chocolate doyenne Maribel Lieberman, has upped the ante once again with the summertime launch of refreshing homemade gelatos, sorbets and iced chocolate drinks. Gelato flavors range from floral to chocolate inspired, including rose petal, lavender, pistachio, matcha green tea, hazelnut and vanilla. And while seasonal fruit certainly plays a role in the Sorbet offerings, including lychee and passion fruit, a rich dark chocolate and robust espresso flavor are also each available and winning over patrons one scoop at a time ($5 small, $7 large). MarieBelle’s Iced Chocolate Drinks ($7), inspired by her critically acclaimed hot chocolate line (Oprah Winfrey is a fan!), blends intense chocolate notes with a smooth, velvety finish, ranging in variety from Aztec, a 65% dark chocolate, Spicy with a hint of cayenne and earthy Cardamom. All of these summertime treats are available for dine-in at the boutique’s Cacao Bar or for take-out to enjoy on the go. Tins of the iced chocolate mixes are also available for $17/each for those with a blender and an insatiable thirst for chocolate! Check it out at 484 Broome St, New York, NY 10013, 212-925-6999.
