With summer here, our time in the kitchen tends to be very limited. Since many of us have as many activities as we do, we don't spend as much time cooking indoors, if at all, during these hot summer days. Those time we do things in the kitchen, many like to "fix it and forget it"! It's that type of recipe that busy cooks rely on.
That brings me to the recipe I'm sharing, which is for "Hershey's Chocolate Pie". This recipe is one of the fastest and easiest desserts I've seen. And don't think I've made a mistake when I wrote it out, for you'll see that it only has three ingredients, and this IS correct! This is one of those desserts that you can make "spur of the moment", refrigerate or freeze, and have it ready for whenever you are. It will be very cooling to enjoy while the summer temperatures are soaring.
You begin with Hershey bars. The recipe calls for a "giant" Hershey bar, which is the 7 ounce size. If you're not able to find this size, use enough of the regular size bars to equal about 7 ounces. These get melted and this is combined with a carton of thawed whipped topping. Into a prepared pie crust it goes and it's ready to go into the refrigerator for several hours. How easy and fast is that???
If you like a pie with the chocolate filling more like ice cream, place the covered pie in the freezer until firm. Whether you simply chill it or freeze it, it's great either way you prepare it. For serving, you can top it with additional whipped topping and you'll have a simple, yet luscious, summer dessert.
Some versions of this recipe call for the almond Hershey bars. You certainly could use those, if you like them. Some folks don't care for almonds or any type of nuts, so it's purely up to the cook! You can use either version for this pie and if you enjoy almonds, then this one will really be one you'll remember!

HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE PIE
- 1 giant Hershey's Chocolate bar (7 ounce size)
- 1 10 oz. container whipped topping, such as Cool Whip, thawed
- 1 prepared graham cracker pie shell
In a saucepan, melt the chocolate over low heat. Fold into the whipped topping and turn into the pie shell. Cover and chill for 5-6 hours. Yield: 6-8 servings.
Variation: use the Hershey bars with almonds.
