Chocolate Cinnamon Scones

I love scones, but I don't usually make them. They always seem like too much work. I finally found a great scone recipe this summer but I didn't have all of the ingredients to make them this past weekend. I decided to take the scone base and add my own twist transforming lemon cherry scones into chocolate cinnamon scones.

These scones turned out great and they were perfect for a cool winter morning with a hot cup of tea. I will definitely make them again, and even try this base with a different twist!

Chocolate Cinnamon Scones
1 3/4 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
5 tbsp cold butter, cut into small pieces
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c. dark chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 400º and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Fold in the butter with a fork and mix until crumbly.

Add buttermilk, vanilla cinnamon and dark chocolate.

Drop dough onto baking sheet, it should make 8 scones. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
