If you’re looking for an easy and amazing chocolate cake recipe, you have found it! Take every flavor and texture that you love, then put them all together in an easy-to-assemble cake, and you have the perfect dessert for any occasion. It all starts with a German chocolate cake mix . . .
For those of you who want to make everything from scratch, this recipe may go against your grain. However, if you make it once, you’ll end up making it again, and again, and again. It’s really, really yummy and it turns out wonderfully every time.
One little hint? Don’t buy the pre-crushed Heath bars – crush your own as you get a better flavor and the texture is better. Although any of your local groceries carry Heath bar pieces in the baking aisle, the pieces are almost powdery and don’t seem to have the same amount of chocolate coating. Buy four Heath bars, stick them in a plastic bag and pound them with a mallet or roll over them with a rolling pin. You want them crushed enough to use as a topping, but don’t go overboard or you will end up with powder.
The second little hint? Don’t try to make a layer cake out of this unless you want a real mess. Personal experience talking here! It looks wonderfully, but it’s just a bit more of a hassle.
