March 19 is National Chocolate Caramel Day

Celebrate everything chocolate and caramel without feeling guilty to honor those two ingredients.

There is a reason chocolate and caramel are two ingredients mixed together in so many candy bars, ice creams, cookies and desserts. Of course, you can eat chocolate alone, and you can eat caramel alone. However, chocolate and caramel make one of the greatest combinations ever.

Who came up with this combination? Milton Hershey began his career at a caramel company. In the late 1800s he began experimenting with ways to improve caramel candy and found some German-built machines for manufacturing chocolate. Later, Hershey's attention eventually shifted completely to chocolate, but his very first product was a chocolate-covered caramel.

To celebrate National Chocolate Caramel Day use a quick and easy recipe to make your favorite chocolate and caramel cookie or candy bar. You may also pick up a batch from your grocery store.

No matter what form you choose make sure you eat that combination together.
