Chiapas was not a tamed jaguar as they visiting team hit the pitch of the Omnilife with full force trying to get on the scoreboard. A beautiful bicycle kick by Vicente Matias Vuoso that broke goalkeeper Cesar Lozano’s net. However, “el toro” was offside when he received the ball. The play was annulled.

Recent arrival Fernando Arce debut with Chivas with a spectacular goal. On a free-kick, Arce sent the ball over the defensive wall and into the top far corner. Lozano didn’t move, he just saw the ball sail into his net for the 1-0.

The goal did not stop the Chiapanecos who continued to apply pressure on the Chivas defense. Chiapas had more shots on goal, but were not accurate in the final touch. Time ran out for the jaguars and the game went to the break with the home side leading 1-0.

Jaguares went after their prey and pushed Chivas back from the start of the second half. The home team was forced to defend and wait on a counterstrike opportunity. Omar Bravo missed two opportunities for the Rebaño Sagrado that would make a difference in the end result.

Chiapas was not as forgiving. Julio Nava, who came on for an injured Christian “Hobbit” Bermudez in the 42nd minute of play, hammered the ball on first touch put the ball between two defenders and the keeper to close the gap 1-1. The game came to an end with 1-1.

The goal delivered by Arce was a beauty, and something that his former team, Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente will miss this season. Arce was one of the players Chivas brought in to reinforce the squad for the Apertura 2014. Chivas is now one of the teams that will be fighting to stave relegation.

Chivas will travel to Mexico City to take on Pumas UNAM, team that defeated Queretaro FC in the season opener. Chiapas will host Toluca FC at the Victor Manuel Reyna Stadium.
