Chivas Continue Downward Spiral

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Monarcas Morelia defeated Chivas de Guadalajara 2-1 at the Omnilife stadium here Saturday during their week 5 game of the Clausura 2012.  The victory temporarily puts Monarcas in 6th place, and leaves Chivas in the bottom of the table with a single point from last week’s game.  The result was not how new Chivas coach Ignacio Ambriz wanted his first home game to end.

“I don’t like to lose, even at marbles,” said Ambriz after the game.  “They had their lines spread out there for a while.  We just didn’t know how to take advantage of the situation.”

The Monarquia are currently on the rise, having not lost a game since the second week of the tournament.  Monarcas coach Tomas Boy had a few words to say about the pitch in Guadalajara.

“My Porsche doesn’t run on synthetic turf,” said Boy, in reference to a recent comment by Chivas owner Jorge Vergara.  “The pitch is nice, the stadium is beautiful, but I think it doesn’t allow for a good game.  Honestly, I think it harms Chivas more.”

The locals took possession of the ball in the first half having several runs on goal, but lacked creativity to concrete their plays.  Marco Fabian was not on the pitch for the game.  The talented midfielder brings creativity to the game, and a powerful shot from outside the penalty box.

At the 38th minute of play Chivas took the lead with a rocket from Omar Arellano that goalkeeper Federico Vilar touched but could not prevent from entering his net.  The Argentine dove, but the ball had so much power it bent his wrist back to give Chivas the lead.

The game changed in the 57th minute when Joel Huiqui took the ball to the opposite side of the field to pass to Gerardo Lugo who on first touch sent it to an unmarked Miguel Sabah.  Sabah easily defeated keeper Luis Michel to tie the game.

The visiting team took control of the game and made the better runs on goal.  With only six minutes to play, Morelia ended Chivas’ hope of at least earning a point.  Rafael Marquez-Lugo set the final goal in motion with a center to Sabah who stopped the ball with his chest and fired it past Michel once more.

Chivas continue their free fall in league play, after five weeks of play they have scored two goals and have earned only a single point.
