Chipotle Mexican Grill has introduced a brand new vegan item on the menu in its flagship stores in Colorado. After having resounding success in test markets in California, Sofritas, shredded tofu braised with chipotle chilies, roasted poblano peppers and a blend of aromatic spices, will be yet another reason the fast causal dining establishment constantly has a line out the door.
In rolling out Sofritas, Chipotle is once again acting as a trailblazer in the dining sector that has transformed the eating experience. “In creating the recipe for Sofritas, we wanted to produce something that would appeal to vegetarian and vegan customers, but that was delicious enough to have crossover appeal as well,” said Chipotle founder and CEO, Steve Ellis.
In typical Chipotle fashion, the highest quality ingredients have been sought out for this revolutionary dish. Hodo Soy, Chipotle’s San Francisco-based tofu supplier, is known for its organic, non-GMO whole bean tofu that happens to be one of the best tasting in the country. Hodo Soy’s products can be found in the Bay Area’s top restaurants and well-loved farmer’s markets.
Sofritas can be added to any burrito along with Chipotle’s other signature items like white or brown cilantro-lime rice, vegetarian black or pinto beans, fajita veggies, a variety of salsas, house-made guacamole, cheese and sour cream. Sofritas has been added to the menu in Chipotle locations in California, the Northwest, Idaho, Utah and Colorado. Vegetarians have yet another delicious reason to love Chipotle. Happy eating!
