The Holy Grail will remain in Oregon. NFL teams have tried for 2 years to gain the brilliance of University of Oregon’s head coach, Chip Kelly, to no avail.
Kelly met with Cleveland in a 10-hour luncheon and with Philadelphia for 7-hours to come up with a viable plan to make everyone happy.
Coach Kelly returned to Oregon on Sunday night, leaving both deals behind.
This is the second year in a row that Kelly has turned away NFL offers. The Browns and Eagles have decided to look elsewhere for the second choices as head coaches for their teams.
Kelly has settled into Oregon, along with his parents. Kelly purchased a home for his parents upon his arrival four years ago.
One source states that Phil Knight asked Kelly to remain in Oregon but it is unclear if Knight’s comments had any connection to Kelly's decision making process.
Will Kelly be offered NFL positions later? With his turn down two years in a row, it may make the NFL owners a bit reluctant to go after Kelly in the future. It seems Chip Kelly’s flash offense and unique coaching approach has become the Holy Grail of football.
As an avid Duck fan, I can only say one thing; Go Ducks! Thank you, Mr. Kelly for standing strong.
