With the Oregon Ducks gearing up for National Signing Day on February 1, a KGW news report has cited sources claiming that, as of Sunday, coach Chip Kelly is close to signing on to become the new head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kelly became the head man at Oregon in 2008 after Mike Bellotti stepped down to take over as the University of Oregon's athletic director. Since then, Kelly has taken Oregon to three consecutive Pac-10/12 titles, two Rose Bowl appearances, and an appearance in the BCS National Championship.
His innovative offense is highly regarded as one of the most game changing in all of college football.
KGW in Portland is reporting that a source claims Kelly is close to coming to an agreement with the NFL team. Kelly will reportedly jump to the NFL if both sides can come to terms on a contract.
The news comes in the wake of QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James leaving the team and declaring for the NFL draft a year early. In addition, the Ducks are expected to face harsh NCAA sanctions stemming from an alleged recruiting violation in 2010.
