The inaugural Chinese New Year Lantern Festival in the Southtowns will take place Sunday, February 24th from noon to 3 p.m. at the Bryant & Stratton College Southtowns Campus, located at 200 Redtail in Orchard Park. The family-friendly event, hosted by, among others, the Confucius Institute at SUNY-Buffalo, EZ Mandarin of WNY and the Town of Orchard Park Recreation Dept., is free to all attendees.
Performances at the event will include a Chinese New Year performance by the Chinese Club of Western New York and a Dragon Dance performed by the Gold Summit Martial Arts Institute. Other activities include Chinese dumpling making, a Chinese tea ceremony and tea tasting, a Chopsticks contest, Asian food tasting and a seminar on Chinese traditional medicine and acupuncture.
Kid-friendly activities at the event will include a Chinese arts and crafts station, readings of Chinese New Year stories, a Chinese language learning corner, a wild snake exhibit and a Chinese cartoon movie corner.
