Chinese blockbuster film "The Monkey King" arrives for 2014 Lunar New Year

The highly anticipated, star studded "The Monkey King" film was released for Chinese - Lunar New Year. The film was released in Hong Kong first on January 30, country wide in China on January 31 and the United States later in the Fall on September 14, 2014.

The film is based on a classic 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West written by Wu Cheng'en during the Ming Dynasty. Monkey King also known as Sun Wukong is a monkey with supernatural powers on a journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India.

The film is directed by "Motorway," "Accident," and "Dog Bite Dog" director, Cheang Pou-soi. The star studded cast includes Donnie Yen as Money King, Chow Yun-fat as the Jade Emperor, Aaron Kwok as Bull Demon King, Joe Chen as Princess Iron Fan and Kelly Chen as the Goddess of Mercy.

The fantastic special visual effects comes from the talented crew which includes Shaun Smith, David Ebner who worked in previous films such as Spider-Man 3, 300, I Am Legend and Alice in Wonderland.
