Chinese agents sent to hurt Dalai Lama

There seems to be no let up in the tensions between Beijing and the Tibetans. More self-immolations recently by Tibetans protesting repressive Chinese rule have shaken up Buddhists. Now the Syracuse Buddhist community has joined in a wave of growing despair over news that Chinese agents are trying to hurt His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Phayul.com has reported "Indian police warn of Chinese agents sent to “harm” the Dalai Lama."

There has been intelligence data received by police in the Indian commercial capital of Mumbai warning that the Dalai Lama may be harmed by six Chinese nationals who are likely to sneak into India. And media sources in India have quoted police sources as stating that a Chinese national of Tibetan origin named Tashi Phuntsok is likely to enter India in order to gather intelligence on the Tibetan administration as well as to cause harm to the Dalai Lama.

The sources have said that the six suspects, in all likelihood, are from China's secret service. Taking the position that the threat to the Dalai Lama “must not be underestimated,” the Mumbai police have noted the increasing trend of Chinese youth entering India on business visas “ostensibly for some clandestine activities”. The police have also warned that the Chinese agents might “try to visit certain areas prohibited for Chinese like Tibetan camps in India”.

The Mumbai police have told reporters that they have informed Tibetan organizations and have directed the special branch and the local police to keep police officers updated about visits of the Dalai Lama vto Mumbai. An Indian police officer has said "He often comes to Mumbai and even goes to slums and mixes with people. We will have to enhance security cover form him in Mumbai." This new development in deteriorating relations between China and the Dalai Lama has Buddhists worldwide praying no harm comes to the Dalai Lama.
