While many pizza chains are expanding beyond their pies to attract and hold more customers in a highly competitive market, at least one major restaurant chain is going the other way by expanding its pizza offerings.
Chili's Grill & Bar is in the process of adding a new pizza program at all of its 1,549 units, a process it hopes to complete by the end of the first quarter of the year.
Parent company Brinker International Inc. is adding other offerings to a menu that long has emphasized Southwestern fare and Big Mouth Burgers.
In addition, Chili's recently introduced other new menu items such as the "Lighter Choices" category with mango-chile chicken and mango-chile tilapia, and standard appetizer and dessert categories with the introduction of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and soft pretzel appetizers.
The new products are made possible by a huge investment in new kitchen equipment at all chain-owned venues.
