For me, this week and weekend are full of activities for both getting into the Christmas spirit and enjoying some talented youngsters box, beginning today where from 1-3PM Linda Seavey, Amy Johnson, Joseph Gutierrez and yours truly, we being several of the balloon handlers for the Donate Life Colorado float titled ‘Gift of Life’, will be at Children’s Hospital, 13123 E. 16th Ave. in Aurora, visiting children who won’t be able to attend the 9News Parade of Lights this Friday and Saturday evening in person.
All of these children are receiving care, some awaiting lifesaving organ transplants, the holiday season sometimes not quite as enjoyable for them as it is for most with this being a wonderful opportunity for us to show our support.
Every child in the hospital will receive a special Donate Life Colorado holiday hat similar to the ones we’ll be wearing during the parade and sharing our stories of hope with the kids and their family members.
This is totally unrelated to boxing but most of you know and understand my passion for spreading the word of organ and tissue donation (me celebrating 15 years of successful kidney transplantation this coming January) so many in need of that lifesaving transplant nationwide with any child awaiting transplant being an unimaginable journey.
Any questions or should you wish to register to become an organ, eye, or tissue donor, go to www.DonateLifeColorado.org or by saying YES when renewing your driver license.
Look for me on Friday night handling that ‘Gift of Life’ balloon shaped like a giant gift box that represents the hope made possible by any organ, eye or tissue donation and our group again on Saturday night, with anticipated icy temperatures on both nights.
This Saturday (beginning at 3PM) and Sunday (starting at noon) the Colorado Silver Gloves Tournament kicks in gear at the Colorado Golden Gloves Charities Gym, 6161 W. 44th Ave. in Wheatridge, with young boys and girls aged 8-15 years of age vying for the right to head to California for Regional competition, their ultimate goal getting to Independence, Missouri, competing in the National Silver Gloves Tournament, January 30, 2013-February1, 2014, sponsored by RINGSIDE.
The Colorado competition will be tough and should you be interested in seeing a young female on the rise don’t miss Alondra Rameriz, she can really bring it.
