A great way for children to start the new year is for them to increase "free play" time and decrease "screen" time. Give them the opportunity to get physically fit and have fun moving their bodies in open, free unstructured ways. When children are physically active during play, it is beneficial for both their bodies and their minds. Venture off with the children to a playground for some wonderful unstructured physical play. Visit the local ice or roller skating rinks. Explore nature year around by biking, hiking, snowshoeing, etc.
This type of "play" will help manage stress, give children the opportunity to practice "problem solving", and bring families together to relate in a fun and joyful way.
