Children can give back to the animals for the holidays

Our pets are part of our families, and children share in taking care of them. The holidays are a time for giving, and organizations that support the homeless animals in the community often sponsor holiday events that families can participate in while sharing with the animals for the holidays.

The Humane Society of Sarasota County is sponsoring a Kids' Night on December 13 from 6-10 p.m. for children of ages 6-12. Children are invited to an open house at the Humane Society with activities planned. Animal-themed games and crafts provide an opportunity for fun. Children may tour the Humane Society shelter to visit with the animals who are currently being cared for, and learn how the shelter cares for the animals while they are waiting for adoption. Pizza will also be available.

There is a $36 charge per child with an additional $10 per sibling. Donations from the charge for participation supports the Humane Society of Sarasota.

The Humane Society is located at 2331 15th Street in Sarasota. You may call Sara Smith at 941-955-4131, ext. 101. You may also log on at to learn more about how the Humane Society of Sarasota cares for the homeless animals in the community throughout the year.

Give your children a special holiday activity that will encourage them to give back this season.
