Childhood Cancer: Fashion Funds the Cure

Feature story and extensive photography on Sam Dobrow's blog.

Sunday, March 7, 2010 was a day of pampering for eleven brave girls who are either fighting or surviving cancer and for their equally brave mothers. One look at their faces and you can feel the depth of character they’ve found to embrace their battle. At 12:30 PM these ladies arrived at the front entrance to Saks Fifth Avenue at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta and stepped out of the Mercedes Benz that chauffeured them to the event. Each mother/daughter pair was escorted inside by their driver. Excitement was in the air as each of these ladies knew what to expect but not sure how it would all unfold. This event is a preliminary to the big fund raising event “Fashion Funds the Cure” hosted at Saks Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, March 30 at 6:00 PM.

These cancer fighting girls will join a troop of professional models showing the best of Saks’ 2010 fashion collections. The girls are living tributes to wonder of modern medicine and the power of determination.

The Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research is hosting Fashion Funds the Cure to benefit the Aflac Cancer Center & Blood Disorders Service of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Mercedes Benz and Saks Fifth Avenue are sponsoring the event. Atlanta Falcons linebacker, Curtis Lofton will chair the event while local celebrities, Jeff Dauhler and his wife Jessica, serve as emcees for the evening.

Tickets for the event are still available at the Rally Foundation website: Patron tickets are also available which allow guests to attend a VIP cocktail reception with Curtis Lofton and other local celebrities.
