Did you know? Tooth decay is one of the most common childhood diseases. Tooth care starts early and teaching your little one good habits at a young age is a great way to keep your kids teeth healthy and beautiful.
Here are a few tips to save your child’s smile.
Limit fruit juices and high-carb snacks: When the word ‘kid’ comes to mind, it tends to go hand-in-hand with juice and crackers. But, both of these things are terrible for teeth. If your kid loves juice, their teeth are constantly being bathed in sugar. Foods, such as pretzels, crackers, and cereal are no better because when these foods are consumed, they break down into sugar. Try to avoid or at least limit both of these for healthier teeth.
Ditch the passy: If your child sucks on a pacifier too strongly or frequently, over time the pressure can cause front teeth to point outward. If you can’t seem to eliminate the passy completely by age two, at least make sure to use pacifiers that are labeled “orthodontically correct”. These may not be as harmful to teeth.
Visit the dentist: Between the ages of two and three, make your child’s first dentist appointment. (Earlier if there are any problems.) Most dental offices will start seeing kids at the age of three, but pediatric dentists will see kids well before then. PD’s are also trained specifically in handling children, which can be very helpful in keeping kids calm if they have any anxieties about going to the dentist.
