11-year-old Kyle Halcomb, one of five children involved in a horrific accident Friday morning, died in a hospital Sunday evening.
Chesterfield Twp police say a 35-year-old woman from Casco Twp in St Clair County was driving her children, ages 8 to 13, to school after they missed the bus.
At about 7:30 AM Friday, the woman was driving her van south on County Line Rd when she ran a red light at 26 Mile Rd. Her van was struck by a westbound vehicle and then, almost immediately, by an eastbound car.
Witnesses said those two vehicles had a solid green light.
Initially there was a concern that the light was not functioning properly, but officers concluded that it was.
The mother was not severely injured, but the five kids were.
The kids were rushed to Mt Clemens Regional Hospital, then moved to Children’s Hospital in Detroit.
Police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the accident.
