Child Family Health International (CFHI) celebration of global health education and community empowerment continues to have a remaining impact one week after its 20th Anniversary Gala. Dr. Evaleen Jones is a Stanford family practice doctor and social entrepreneur. Dr. Jones founded CFHI 20 years ago in 1992 with an ambition to amend the health education traditions of sending medical students abroad. The gala was a culmination of 20 years of impact on global health education and community empowerment.
Dr. Jones addressed the gala audience humbly; as she spoke about the genesis of CFHI and its many successes. Her speech was concluded with a resounding applause and a standing ovation from the celebratory audience. Supporters from surrounding Bay Area organizations, universities, and companies filled the Fort Mason Conference Center room to capacity. CEO, Sajjad Mir of Hastest Solutions, Inc., located in San Jose came out to support CFHI and is quoted saying, “It’s an honor to celebrate the accomplishments of CFHI. Its program inspires and exhibits a unified global health and community initiative.” Maggie Chavez, MD, traveled from Oaxaca, Mexico, eloquently spoke, of the work being done there as a result of CFHI’s partnership and program.
Dr. Jessica Evert, Medical Director of CFHI is quoted saying, “This event captured the fusion of culture, humility, and global health education that CFHI provides, and showed how it is unique in its space and throughout the world to create a global community. I hope to see that these connections students made over the last 20 years come to fruition and create a global community that is based on mutual respect, health equity, and advocacy.”
The night's events were filled with exotic foods, live cultural music and dancing with performances by Duniya, the Ballet Folklorico de Stanford, and Zahanat it was, clearly, a celebration of cultures, festivities, and networking. The evening guest speakers included nonprofit expert Steve Schmidbauer, M.Div., UC Davis professor Yvette G. Flores, PhD, and CFHI Executive Director Mirriam Rafiq Braden, MPH each speaker’s attribution to CFHI’s program endorsed the necessity for global health education and community empowerment.
Dr. Jones is quoted saying, “It was a wonderful turn out, we had a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge, and many heartfelt speeches; it was an all-around delightful event.”
