The statistics of child abuse in America are shocking. Five children will die today in the United States because of abuse. Eighty percent of child abuse fatalities are children under age four. Seventy-five percent of child abuse cases are due to neglect. Child abuse victims will most likely become substance abusers because two-thirds of people in substance abuse treatment report having been abused as a child. Common warning signs of abuse include: unexplained injuries, inappropriate sexual behaviors, and changes in academic performance.
