While heading into PetSmart on 23rd I happen across the Chihuahua Rescue and Referral event and got a chance to meet some of their dogs that are up for adoption. I was surprised to find the verity of sizes and colors and temperaments. All of the dogs and their volunteers had bright eyes that told their story. They are truly amazing little dogs and amazing people caring for them.
The Chihuahua Rescue and Referral is 100% volunteer based organization that is dedicated to the rescue, rehab and re-homing of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in the Pacific Northwest. These amazing little dogs are not kept in a shelter. All of them are loved and cared for in foster homes and they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and fully checked over before being placed in a new home.
While there I talked with some of the volunteers and heard the stories of some of the dogs. The people are very dedicated and loyal to the breed. Most of the dogs are extremely friendly and out going, there are a few with a minor temperament issue that seemed to me to be brought on more by not understanding what’s going. Of course, those were also the ones that really stole my heart, you can see it in their little faces, they just want to be loved.
The Chihuahua Rescue and Referral are at the PetSmart on 23rd in Tacoma every first Saturday of the month. If you cant go by today, make it out next month and at least give a little love and attention to a little dog in need.
