Chiefs reserve guard Watkins suspended four games

The bad news is that a Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman has been suspended four games in 2014 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, as first reported by Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star on Thursday.

The good news is that the player suspended is back-up guard, Rokevious Watkins and not someone that the team will be counting on heavily to win the AFC West.

There was no word from the league or the Chiefs about what the substance was, but it is the second time the third-year pro will be suspended by the league in his brief career. He was suspended for the first game of the 2013 season when he played for the St. Louis Rams. The Rams drafted Watkins in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft and moved the former University of South Carolina from offensive tackle to guard.

He was injured in the first game of the 2012 season and missed the rest of the year.

Watkins (6-4, 338 lbs.) played in three games for Kansas City in 2013 after being released by the Rams during the season. He started Kansas City’s last game of the year against San Diego when head coach Andy Reid rested virtually every starter to prepare for the playoff game the next weekend against the Indianapolis Colts.

Given Watkins’ size, girth, and lack of production during his short career, some people are wondering if bacon double-cheeseburgers are now a banned substance in the NFL?
