Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Friday that the NFL will suspend Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe for one game this season for “substance abuse”. The receiver will miss the opening game against the Tennessee Titans. Schefter quoted an unidentified team source for his report.
It is assumed that the substance abuse charge stems from the 2013 incident where Bowe was arrested and charged with marijuana possession and speeding in November in nearby Riverside, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City. In April of this year, Bowe worked out a deal with Riverside and pled guilty to amended charges and the marijuana charge was dismissed.
Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the Tennessee game is a virtual “must-win” game if they want to make another successful run to the playoffs in 2014. Five of the first six games are brutal based on 2013 performances and it won’t help that the Chiefs will be missing their #1 wide receiver for any amount of time.
The Chiefs have made no official comment at this time.
