The Kansas City Chiefs get the early game this week, traveling to Philadelphia to take on Head Coach Andy Reid’s old club, and even though there are a million story lines in this game, from a fantasy point of view, there’s only one. The Eagles score fantasy points by the bushel and their defense has given them up by the double-bushel.
In both of their games this season, the Eagles have put up video game kind of offensive numbers in head coach Chip Kelly’s go-go offensive scheme. It’s similar to the offense he ran in college at Oregon. The difference now is that he’s not playing against weak Pac-12 defenses full of kids that won’t ever touch an NFL field.
Emotions will be flying high in Philly with Reid’s return as well as fantasy points across the board. Because the NFL is playing a Thursday night game every week this season, you should already be used to getting your fantasy line-ups done by Thursday afternoon.
Here is how I think the Chiefs fantasy players will perform this week:
QB – Alex Smith again played a solid if unspectacular game against the Cowboys and emerged as a winner in real life. In fantasy, where QBs are throwing the ball for 400+ yards and 2-3 touchdowns, it’s hard to justify playing Smith for your fantasy team. The Eagles secondary is practically non-existent right now, so if Smith is every going to throw for 300 yards, this is the week.
- Prediction: 265 yards, 2 passing touchdown, 0 interceptions, 45 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD.
RB – Jamaal Charles is the biggest lock at fantasy running back this week and should easily put up monster numbers against an Eagles defense that doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing half the time. Fans have been waiting for Charles to rip off one of his long runs and this is the game where he does it. Ignore Cyrus Gray and especially Knile Davis for now as Charles will get all the meaningful touches at RB.
- Prediction: Charles – 120 yards rushing, 4 receptions for 50 yds, 1 touchdown
WR – Dwayne Bowe owners finally saw him reach the end zone against the Cowboys last week and they’ll see him score again this week. Every receiving group that has played the Eagles has thrived so far this year and the Chiefs won’t be any different. Donnie Avery could be a sleeper candidate to play at your flex position if you’ve got some injuries on your squad, and Junior Hemingway could play the role of big tight end target if regular tight ends Anthony Fasano and Travis Kelce can’t play because of injury.
- Prediction: Bowe – 7 catches, 90 yards, 1 TD; Avery – 4 catches 50 yards; McCluster – 6 catches, 55 yds; Hemingway – 3 catches, 20 yds.
TE – It’s looking like Fasano and Kelce won’t be playing Thursday night. That means Sean McGrath and newly signed Kevin Brock will be starting at tight end. Do I really need to tell you to ignore these guys?
Kicker – Don’t play Ryan Succop either.
Defense/Special Teams – The Chiefs are playing some of the best defense in the NFL, but the Eagles will put up a ton of yards and a score somewhere in the mid-20’s or more. And while the special teams has been OK, they’re not exactly playing like they did in preseason. This just isn’t the week to play the Chiefs defense in fantasy.
