Martin Stanley hired on the Mobile Fire Rescue Department on April 1, 1980 as a Firefighter and was promoted to the rank of Driver on June 1, 1985, a few years later on October 21, 1989 he was promoted to the rank of Captain, and then on February 3, 1997 Martin Stanley was promoted to the rank of Chief.

Chief Stanley apparently had reached his goal in climbing the rank structure of the Mobile Fire Department because he retained his rank as chief for the rest of his career serving the city of Mobile.
