What do you do when you’re sick?
Generous soul that you are, you probably go to work and spread the germs around.
But what do you do when you’re sick enough to stay home but not sick enough to be admitted to the hospital? My friend, Pat, said she catches up on her rest, watches TV, and crochets. She considers it total down time when she has absolutely no obligations.
As far as treatment goes, we all know chicken soup really works when you have a cold. As a vegetarian I make vegetarian noodle soup that seems to fake out the germs well enough.
Some people like to be fussed over, some like to be left alone. When I have a cold I want to be fussed over just enough to make sure someone knows how much I’m suffering. Then I want to be left alone to wallow in my misery. And also to watch all the shows on the DVR that I hadn’t gotten to yet.
My mom seldom got sick—too busy taking care of nine kids and our dad. When we saw her lying on the couch we knew she was really down for the count. Come to think of it, when my kids were home I didn’t get sick either. Wonder why that is?
What do you do when you have a cold? How do you like to be treated? Attention or privacy?
The conversation continues with you.

Being a wife and a mother of 2, when I get sick, I like to have my husband go to the store for me to stock up on medicine and then take the kids away from me so that I can sleep the day away and get some rest. As long as I get some good rest, I usually get over my colds pretty quickly.
I want to be left alone. It's okay if you want to bring me a glass of juice or cup of tea, otherwise stay away.
Mothers aren't allowed to be sick, of course. It's part of the contract. As for pampering, I prefer to be left alone, but love how my huskies tend to be extra attentive when I am down for the count. Either they really do sense I am ill and are sympathic to me...or they look at my being in bed means more petting for them. (I'm betting the latter!)
I haven't had a cold or the flu for more than eight years now. I owe it to two 250 mg Vitamin C tablets every day--and no kids at home going off to school and collecting germs to bring home. If I feel something might be coming, I drink Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat Tea.
When they were younger and I DID sometimes get sick, it was "leave me alone", hot tea, and Vernor's ginger ale.
Actually I have a cold right now and have gotten up with a sore throat two days running so far. I work anyway of course (but I work from home, so I am not spreading anything around an office). When I am sick enough to stay in bed, I read or listen to podcasts with my eyes closed. I really want to be left alone and have no problem with my wife going off to work or errands. For colds I take echinacea (Herb Farm is the best) and vitamin C.
