Chick Flick Throwbacks of the Week

We're going through a bit of a chick-flick dry spell in theatres right now, so it's time to step back from the box office and pick up a few classics. Check out the following list of three of the most excellent chick flick movies of all time, and clock out of the real world with your fluffiest pj's and a tub of well-earned chocolate-chip cookie dough icecream for the perfect night of relaxation.

1) Pretty Woman-- If you have never watched Pretty Woman, then you're not a true chick-flick fan. You might not even be a real woman. The story is simple: wealthy business man picks up a prostitute and falls in love with her over the course of the film. Pretty Woman is one of those movies that makes you want to reach through the television screen and hulk smash Julia Roberts so that you can steal Richard Gere away and live happily ever after with him and his billion dollar fortune and dashing good looks (okay, well maybe it's the only movie that makes you want to smash Julia Roberts, but you get the idea). I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone who has lived under a stone for long enough to have never seen it, but let's just say that if you like Prince Charming moments, this movie has one of the best you'll ever see. WATCH IT, that's a command.

2) He's Just Not That into You-- Alright, so this one is pretty recent for a throwback, but it's one of the best chick flicks of all time, so it belongs on this list. Pick up this movie if you've been through a break up recently, or the guy you're dating treats you more like a dog turd than the beautiful woman that you undoubtably are. The movie features a variety of story lines that are all interconnected, and all focus around problematic relationships. It's the kind of movie that makes you yell at your television, or, in my case, pelt it with Dove chocolates in frustration, but it delivers some good solid lessons that every woman needs to hear at some point. For instance, "if a guy is treating you like he doesn't give a crap, he genuinely doesn't give a crap. NO EXCEPTIONS." If you're not convinved yet that this movie is a must-see, I have two words for you: JENNIFER ANISTION. Yup, she's in it, and, in my professional opinion, any Jennifer movie is worth watching, especially one that partners her with Ben Affleck.

3) How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days-- No chick flick night is complete without How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. It's charming, romantic, and hilarious (the chick flick trifecta). Even guys tend to enjoy this one, although they'd rather get trampled by elephantswith hot coals attached to their feet than admit it. The movie, starring the gorgeous Kate Hudson and mouth-watering Matthew McConaughey, is about journalist Andy Anderson who sets out to prove that being beautiful isn't everything; any woman is certain to lose a man in ten days if she makes certain mistakes. In an ironic twist, the man she choses to experiment on is involved in a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him in ten days, resulting in one of the most entertaining chick flick battles of all time.

Now tell your DVD player to warm up, because it's in for a marathon (HA-HA), and have a good night living vicariously through Hollywood romance.
