The dogs' owner, 42-year-old Yesdil Del Socorro Garcia-Hurtado, has been charged with nine counts of animal cruelty, and a charge for animal hoarding, after 30 neglected dogs were discovered in squalid conditions in her one-bedroom apartment.
Officials, who discovered the situation after someone made an anonymous tip, declared the residence to be "unlivable."
The dogs, described as Chihuahuas, were suffering from malnutrition and dehydration, including other maladies, from being forced to live in a filthy, feces-laden environment; some of the rescued dogs are pregnant.
Following the dogs' rescue from the residence, hundreds of volunteers have stepped forward to aid in their care.
Anyone in the area who would like to help with this situation is asked to call 847-596-8774 and leave a contact number.
