Chicago Symphony Orchestra announces its 2014/15 season

In the 2014/15 season, Music Director Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will enter their fifth season together with a wide range of programs featuring splendid masterpieces, exciting new works, and today's most visionary artists.

Here are a few of season’s highlights:

  • A season-opening performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 conducted by Maestro Muti
  • Austro-German masters from Bach to Bruckner, Mozart to Mahler, including Bach's complete Brandenburg concertos and Mozart's Requiem
  • The complete symphonies of Tchaikovsky and a celebration of Scriabin
  • A season-long focus on French composers from Berlioz to Boulez, whose 90th birthday is celebrated during this season
  • A three-week festival in May, entitled Reveries and Passions, emphasizing 20th century French dramatic and operatic works
  • World premieres of commissioned works by Mason Bates and Anna Clyne in the culmination of their five years as Mead Composers-in-Residence
  • Symphony Center Presents brings a plethora of extraordinary musicians to the Orchestra Hall stage, including Evgeny Kissin, Hilary Hahn, Maurizio Pollini, the London Philharmonic with Vladimir Jurowski and many more
  • Explorations of the works of Boulez, Brahms and Ravel in the CSO’s innovative, multimedia Beyond the Score series
  • CSO at the Movies is back with Pixar in Concert and 2001: A Space Odyssey
