Chicago still has among the highest sales tax in the nation, but starting on January 1, there is a little relief coming. The sales tax will drop from 9.75 percent to 9.5 percent.
“I don’t see what the big deal is,” says UCI student Darren Lobato. “Even every area in Southern California or New Jersey still has lower sales tax rates.” Darren is correct; the 9.5 percent sales tax rate will still be just about the highest in the nation.
Chicago has been a huge victim of the economy, even though some say things are finally picking up. However, many long-time Chicagoans are packing up and going elsewhere. Will you stay in Chicago? Do you think things are really improving?
