Unschooling refers to a variety of learning philosophies and practices based on making room for children to learn through life experiences.

Unschooling parents guide their children, encourage learning through their natural environment, and foster a sense of responsibility within their children through child-directed play, household responsibilities and social interaction. Common parental involvement includes sharing literature and activities, introducing their child to interesting individuals, and helping their child set goals.

Chicago’s Northside Unschoolers Group (NUG) is a support group for homeschooling families in and around Chicago. Northside Unschoolers Group is a non-directed support group that relies on the resources, creativity, and interests of NUG families to provide classes and activities for the group.
