Will the ground hog see his shadow on Saturday? Instead of waiting to find out, check out some of the fun events to support animal rescue this weekend from Lotto’s Birthday Party to Good Start Classes to Pooch-a-Palooza and the Puppy Bowl, there are plenty of fun activities on Chicago’s Pet Scene.
Saturday, February 2
Stop by K9 Playtime at 403 Washington Blvd in Mundelein for Lotto’s Birthday Party for Black Bear (Blackie) from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Admission is $11 and includes doggy playtime, dog wash, and more as Placing Paws and Lotto raise money to help pay Blackie’s vet bills. Blackie was shot in the face and rescued from Missouri.
You just added a new dog to the family – now what? Stop by the Good Start Class from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Wright-Way Rescue in Niles to find out what to do and expect next after adopting a dog. The 90-minute class covers the basics of dog training and answers some of the basic questions you may have. The class is free for Wright-Way adopters and $10 for everyone else.
In Northwest Indiana, 2x2 Rescue will celebrate Ground Hog Day with its first big adoption event of the year at Hungry Hound Boutique & Grooming located at 8243 Wicker Avenue in Saint John. The event runs from noon until 3 p.m. and will feature dogs, cats, birds and maybe some other critters from the local and Indianapolis Chapters and Photos by Fetch Portraits.
In Chicago, stop by Urban Pooch in Chicago for Pooch-a-Palooza for loads of fun with your pup. The event runs from noon until 6 p.m. with the $5 entry fee supporting Rescue ME Clifford. Dogs that have passed the socialization class are welcome.
The Super Bowl is Sunday so it must be time for the Puppy Bowl on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Stop by Central Bark Doggy Day Care in Oswego for fun, games and goodies all to raise money for various animal rescues – Adopt a Husky, Angels on Wheels and Fur Angels. Entry fee is one item from the gift list. Socialized, well-behaved dogs welcome.
And finally, we can’t forget the kitty cats! Share the Love at the Valentine’s open house from 1 to 4 p.m. at Harmony House for Cats at 2914 North Elston in Chicago. Tour their awesome new shelter and check out the cat-themed jewelry, bake sale goodies and cat products. Of course, there are lots and lots of kitties looking for a new home.

Stop by PetSmart on the Near North Side at 1415 North Kingsbury Street in Chicago from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for an adoption and informational event for Chicago Pet Rescue. Check out the dogs and Guinea Pigs.
