Chicago is ready for St. Patrick's Day 2014 weekend after the river that runs through the Windy City received its annual dye job. Yes, the once murky and half frozen waters of the Chicago River are now wearing a brilliant green; emerald green to be more exact.

According to the Chicago Tribune on March 15, bagpipes played as boats spread ectoplasm green into the drink while locals and visitors alike cheered on this St. Patrick's Day tradition.

Happily, the weather, which has been harsh all winter, cooperated on Saturday for this ritual to be witnessed under a sunny sky.

Meanwhile, many Chicagoans were just as green as the river. Indeed, these festive sorts dressed for the occasion in all kinds of St. Patrick's Day regalia. One woman wore a green hat, a green scarf and a green St. Patrick's Day necklace in the shape of a beer stein reported the newspaper of record in Chicago.

More revelers like this celebratory participant are expected to be out and about in Chicago on Sunday as The South Side Irish Parade gets going at noon. Those in town who are among the uninitiated should know that the parade takes place on Western Avenue, starting at 103rd Street and ending at 115th Street.

And with that, all that's left to say is Happy St. Patrick's Day 2014.
