If there's any food that can soothe your soul, take you back to childhood or comfort you when life has turned awry, it's a grilled cheese sandwich.
Saturday, April 12 is National Grilled Cheese Day and Chicago pubs, Stout Barrel House and Timothy O'Toole's, will feature these tempting, toasty sandwiches oozing with cheese.
In River North, Stout Barrel House and Galley will offer an open-faced grilled cheese sandwich made with Camembert and cheddar cheese, served with house made tomato soup ($9). Short rib may be added to the sandwich for $4; mac 'n cheese may be added for $2. Stout suggests pairing this dish with Two Brothers Ebel’s Weiss Hefewiezen or Victory Golden Monkey Belgian Style Tripel. Stout is open on Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Timothy O'Toole's Pub in Streeterville will feature a foot-long grilled cheese sandwich, served with tomato basil sauce ($8). Pair your cheesy goodness with one of the subterranean sports pub's brews of the month: Goose Island Urban Pale Ale (can $5); Deschutes Chain Breaker (pint $5); Sierra Nevada Torpedo (pint $5.50); Three Floyds Gumball Head (pint $5.50); Oskar Blues Gubna (pint $6); among others. O'Toole's is open on Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.
How can you make a grilled cheese better? Some say bacon, others tomatoes. Da Lobsta says can you elevate this luscious treat to its highest peak-with sweet, delicious chunks of lobster. Da Lobsta's Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich is made with thick sliced Texas toast, Havarti cheese and lobster meat with a side of Tarragon Mayo for dipping. Lord. Have. Mercy.
In honor of National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, on Saturday, April 12, Da Lobsta is offering its Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich for only $9.95, a savings of $3 per sandwich.
