Mark Shore, Shore Capital Management / DePaul University
Mark Shore is the Founder and Chief Research Officer of the research/consulting firm Shore Capital Management LLC in Chicago. He has more than 25 years of investment, research and capital markets experience. Prior to Shore Capital Management, Mr. Shore was Head of Risk for Octane Research ($1.1 billion AUM) and COO of VK Capital, Inc ($250 million AUM) a wholly-owned CTA at Morgan Stanley. He consults in alternative investments regarding due diligence, research, educational workshops and business development. His research is found at www.shorecapmgmt.com
Mr. Shore is also an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business where he teaches a graduate level course on managed futures and global macro strategies. He is a Board Member of the Arditti Center for Risk Management at DePaul University. He is a contributing writer to Eurex, CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE), Reuters HedgeWorld, Yahoo.com, examiner.com, Micro-Cap Review and Prime Meridian. He recently began hosting the internet talk show about alternative investments “Skewing Your Diversification”. Mr. Shore Received his MBA from the University of Chicago.
Cem Karsan is Founder and Senior Managing Partner of AEGEA Capital. He is responsible for firm-wide management, as well as its Head of Research and Risk Management. Mr. Karsan formed Aegea Capital after over a decade of experience building industry-leading derivatives businesses. From 1999 to 2002, he worked as a volatility trader as part of RBC Dominion Securities’ Derivatives Arbitrage Group. From 2002 to 2005, he worked under renowned Wall Street investor John Mulheren at Bear Wagner Specialists, where Mr. Karsan helped expand the firm’s fledgling derivatives arbitrage business into a competitive force within the industry. In 2005, Mr. Karsan took a select group from the firm’s trading arm and founded his own proprietary market-making firm specializing in equity index volatility arbitrage. From 2007 to 2010, over the course of the financial crisis, Precision Capital Management earned a compounded return to investors of many multiples of their initial investment. With its success, the firm quickly grew in the products it traded, accounting for approximately 13% of CBOE S&P 500 index option volume at its peak. In 2010, Mr. Karsan divested his stake in Precision Capital Management to found AEGEA Capital, a volatility fund management and investment advisory firm.
Mr. Karsan holds a BA from Rice University, with a triple major in Economics, Policy Studies and English. He also holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, with an emphasis in Analytical Finance and Management & Strategy.
Mike Kimbarovsky is a principal with Advocate and serves as the senior portfolio manager for the firm’s HDL Equity, Adaptive Yield and Equity Volatility Opportunity (EVO) strategies.
Prior to Advocate, Mike was a partner and managing director of Extenxion LLC, a consulting firm focused on providing strategy consulting services for a variety of multi-national clients in the financial services industry. Prior to Extenxion, Mike worked in the proprietary trading desk and merchant energy trading industry in the role of risk management, developing measurements to accurately integrate exchange-traded and OTC on-balance sheet and off-balance sheet risk exposures for natural gas, electricity, weather and liquids trading. Prior to Extenxion, he served as President of Hedge Fund Research (HFR), an investment advisory firm in Chicago. While leading HFR, the firm structured and launched several innovative fund products, including the first hedge fund indices in the industry, still used as a standard measure of comparison in the industry today. Mike structured various retail-oriented, high-net-worth-oriented, and institutional-oriented multi-manager fund products for private and broker-oriented distribution channels. He also developed an industry-first daily transparency process and technology platform for evaluating and monitoring portfolio risk characteristics for billions of investment assets.
Mike received a BA in Economics from Northwestern University and an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago. He is also a guest lecturer at DePaul University’s Applied Portfolio Management graduate class.
