Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players get romantic for Valentine’s Day

The award-winning Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players, comprised of musicians from Lyric Opera of Chicago, are giving two concerts as part of its annual series to help listeners get into the romantic mood.  In February, the CPCP will have two concerts dedicated to romantic music in the Chicago suburbs.  The first will take place in Park Ridge, IL on Sunday, February 6th and the other is scheduled on Sunday, February 13th in Hinsdale, IL. 

Concert on February 6 in Park Ridge

The Chicago Philharmonic will return to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge for the second chamber concert in its series of three on February 6 at 3 p.m. The concert titled "Valentine’s Romance" will feature sweet music that is sure to warm the heart prep for your holiday of the heart.  The group will perform a selection of love songs by Stephen Sondheim; several intensely passionate tangos by Astor Piazzolla, Two Songs for Voice, Viola and Piano, Op.91 by Johannes Brahms; Carl Maria von Weber’s Piano Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano; and Francois Couperin’s Le Rossignol en Amour.

Performers are: Jessye Wright, Mezzo-Soprano; William Billingham, Piano; Donna Milanovich, Flute; Karl Davies, Violin, Viola; and Margaret Daly, Cello.

The final concert in the series takes place on Good Friday, April 22 at noon.  The ensemble will perform Franz Joseph Haydn’s moving work The Seven Last Words of Christ.  This beloved piece features seven meditations on Christ’s seven final statements.  The work was commissioned in 1787 for a Good Friday service at the Grotto Santa Cueva in Spain.

Concerts take place at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 205 North Prospect Avenue, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Concerts are underwritten by Park Ridge Cultural Arts Council and Michael Becker Fine Violins. This program is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council. 

Concert on February 13 at Hinsdale 

On Sunday, February 13 at 3 p.m.  the ensemble will perform a program titled "Valentine’s Delights".  The program will include romantic works meant to warm the heart such as the String Quartet No. 3 in A minor Op. Post by Charles Gounod, Italian Serenade by Hugo Wolf and Piano Quartet in G minor Op. 25 by Johannes Brahms.

Performers include William Billingham, Piano; John Macfarlane, Violin; Karyn Macfarlane, Violin; Karl Davies, Viola; and Margaret Daly, Cello.  

This will be the first concert of a two part series. The second concert Sounds of Spring takes place on Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m. with works to welcome the freshness of springtime.

Concerts take place at Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave. The February concert is underwritten by Eric and Anne Blanchard. This program is sponsored in part by the Illinois Arts Council.
