In the 1st episode, we learn about the new unit that Voight has set up to try and take down the crime in Chicago. They play by a separate set of rules as they do this so they can get results. Things get a bit hairy at the end as they loose one of their own and Dawson’s son gets kidnapped.

In this episode called “The Wrong Side of the Bars”, the unit bond together and stop at nothing to try and find Dawson’s son, using any means necessary.
We learn a lot in this show especially about the unit. When the stakes are high that is when our true characters show.
In this episode, Dawson had a hard time keeping his emotions from taking control. It proved even harder when you have Voight over your shoulder telling you to do anything and everything to get the answers that you want. Someone like Dawson, who is straight-laced, would have a hard time torturing a witness for answers. It’s not until his wife begs him to find his son that he breaks down.
Some subtle things that were revealed about Lindsey. We learn that she has a record and is one of Voight’s former CIs, and perhaps the worst person to find that out is her partner Halstead. She tries and does everything she can to keep her past a secret, but Halstead doesn’t seem the type to give up. At the end of the show, she makes a smart decision, but it’s obvious that she is still new at the whole thing as she can’t make the shot when it counts.
The rookie, Ruzek, is trying to learn when to be aggressive and when not to. Plus, he is harboring what he’s really doing from his fiancée (which obviously will come back and blow up in his face).
In the end, the unit is able to save Dawson’s son, Diego, and it’s Voight’s way. That means getting down and getting dirty just like the players they are up against. They make a pact at the end of the show to bond together under Voight and form a family and put that family above anything else.
Making that kind of promise is dangerous. Secrets will be made, lies will be told, people will be hurt. It’s only a matter of time before that avalanche falls.
In next week’s episode, we are getting what looks to be a trend for probably this season and maybe beyond. Taylor Kinney is guest starring in a crossover episode from Chicago Fire asking the PD for help for a missing family while Voight tries and gets D’Anthony away from his family after they ask him to kill someone.
