Chicago-land golf courses have globular clusters: Part IV

Certain dishes at Italian restaurants have globular clusters (spaghetti and meat balls). Boxes of certain, round donuts that lack holes are globular clusters. Chicago-land golf courses have globular clusters.

The main, globular cluster area at Evanston-Wilmette Golf Course is the seventh hole. (Up until approximately 2003, this course had the name of Peter Jans Golf Course. From 2003-2010, this golf course’s name was Frank Govern Memorial Golf Course. Evanston-Wilmette Golf Course is at 1031 Central Street in Evanston, Ill.) The seventh hole is par three and 150 yards from the main teeing ground. Golfers’ challenges are to fly their golf balls over the sanitation canal, which is more than 50 feet below the fairway’s level, to a small putting green. Many golfers fail to fly over the canal, hitting their balls into the canal. I would not be surprised to discover that many clusters of 50 balls exist in this canals, muddy bottom.

The main, globular cluster area at Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course is the fifth hole. (Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course is at 3600 N. Recreation Drive in Chicago, Ill.) The fifth hole is par five, 515 yards from the rear tee ground. As the easternmost hole on this golf course, golfers can easily view Lake Michigan and the walkway that extends several miles along the lakeshore. Golfers often create globular clusters among the huge boulders that border Lake Michigan. These clusters are the result of golfers hitting hook shots, and crosswinds blowing west to east. Clusters will also be on the walkway.

The main, globular cluster area at Marquette Park Golf Course is the third hole. (Marquette Park Golf Course is at 6700 S. Kedzie Avenue in Chicago, Ill.) The third hole is par five, 458 yards from the blue teeing ground. The fairway slopes toward the huge, lateral water hazard (pond) that exists along the right side. Extending from the teeing grounds to approximately 40 feet from the putting green, the pond’s banks, pond and rough area nearby probably have at least 20, globular cluster areas.

All of the aforementioned golf courses are nine holes courses. Evanston-Wilmette Golf course has the narrowest fairways. Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course is the most difficult.
