Every Christmas season, a German-themed holiday market opens at the Daley Plaza in Chicago. From beer to brats to handcrafted German ornaments ... most everything German is here.
Germans are one of the largest white ethnic communities in Chicago, in fact, at one point of Chicago's history, 1 out of 4 Chicagoans identified themselves as either born in Germany or have one parent born in Germany. Most of the German-Chicagoans are ethnic Germans from Russia (Volga Germans).
The Lincoln Square neighborhood in the city's northwest side is the heart of German culture in Chicago - with shops and architecture that remind visitors of the German heritage of Chicago.
But not during Christmas time - because the German center of Chicago during the Christmas holidays is in Daley Plaza in the Loop!
The Christkindlmarket runs from November 20 - December 24. Come on down!
