Although Chicago is scattered with a variety of smaller gyms, such as Hidden Peak bouldering gym, it has always lacked a large-scale facility dedicated solely to rock climbing. Chicagoans seeking bigger climbs, outside of the traditional workout gym environment, used to travel to Warrenville, where the chain Vertical Endeavors runs a climbing facility.
The new First Ascent spot will stand in the South Loop. Featuring 55-foot walls with top ropes and a 5,000-square-foot bouldering area, the new Chicago gym hopes to cater to everyone from beginning climbers to pros.
Although located in the flatlands of the Midwest, Chicago features a large community of dedicated climbers. The third-largest city in the country eagerly awaits its first official rock climbing gym, coming this spring.
