Chicago French cooking classes

Learning to cook a new cuisine can be daunting. You’re sitting alone in your kitchen with a pile of brand-new cookbooks, with no idea where to begin. Wouldn’t it be great if someone could show you the basics? Well, fortunately that’s what cooking classes are for. Here in Chicago, we have no shortage of great options for French cooking classes.

The Chopping Blockis the premier non-professional cooking school here in the city. They have classes catering to every interest, with no shortage of French class options. With two locations - one at the Merchandise Mart downtown and the other in Lincoln Square, they’re conveniently located. In April, French class options include April in Paris, Fabulous French Pastries, French Crêperie, Celebrating Julia Child: New Spring Recipes and The Basics: Brasserie. In May, the offerings include For the Love of Crepes, Fabulous French Pastries, Paris in the Spring, and Celebrating Julia Child. The Wooden Spoon is a charming cooking and kitchenware store located in Andersonville. They have a small kitchen and patio where they host cooking classes focusing on a variety of cuisines. There are usually some French offerings on their schedule - in April they’re doing and April in Paris class, and May’s Garden Party class isn’t billed as French, but the menu is very French-inspired. And if desserts are what you obsess over, there are classes for you too. The French Pastry Schoolat Kennedy King College offers continuing education courses in addition to their professional program.
