WINNING BRUNCH SPOTS: Open Table, the popular online booking site, often surveys its nationwide base of users about the restaurants they visit. One of their recent surveys resulted in users’ picks for the most-popular-brunch places across the nation. Here are the 2014 Chicago winners of the top 100 Restaurants for Brunch in America:


NEW MENU: The Grill on the Alley, 909 N. Michigan Ave., has introduced a spiffy new menu for lunch and dinner. You’ll now be able to customize your meal by picking from a selection of unique sides and a sharing menu. Pick one of eight styles (e.g., Truffle Butter, Bleu Cheese Herb Crust, Béarnaise sauce and more) for serving your prime steak or chops – and add half a lobster tail if you’re in the mood for surf ‘n’ turf. New sides include shareable dishes like Cauliflower Gratin (with Emmenthaler cheese and bacon), Chipotle Cheddar Cream Corn (num!), and Lobster Mashed Potatoes (‘nuff said?). New salads include a fresh baby spinach and a Filet Steak salad – mixed field greens with roasted red peppers, asparagus, and gorgonzola in balsamic vinaigrette. Talk to your server about other new items. Sounds like a place to make yourself feel spoiled!


NEW MENU: Blue Door Farm Stand, 843 W. Armitage Ave., which specializes in fresh farm ingredients, announces new menu items: Cheese and Charcuterie Board ($15), Farmer’s Salsa ($6), Kale and Artichoke Dip ($7), Citrus & Kale Salad with walnuts and blue cheese ($11), Sesame Chicken Salad with cilantro sesame vinaigrette ($11), Grilled Banana Nutella Sandwich ($8), Hummus Veggie Patch ($9), Caprese Grilled Cheese ($9), and Fig and Arugula Grilled Cheese ($10). I don’t know about you, but these sound mouth-watering!


NEW MENU: Chicago q, 1160 N. Dearborn St. I love the bar and the dark wood ambiance of this place. New menu items feature local and seasonal ingredients including kale, corn, watermelon and rhubarb. Try Seared Ahi Tuna Salad ($14), Grilled Stuffed Poblano Peppers ($16), Seared Ahi Tuna Steak ($19), Smoked Chipotle Corn ($7), Watermelon Salad ($5), Chocolate Mousse Pie ($8), Dutch Apple Pie ($9), and Ginger Rhubarb Cheesecake ($9). Oh, and don’t forget they’re also offering $5 pours of their sweet, maple-tinged Angel’s Envy q Bourbon on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15.


NEW CONFECTION: GODIVA Chocolatier announces its latest concoction to delight the chocolate-loving heart of you. It’s called GODIVA Trufflelata, and it’s a frozen delight made with one of six truffles. You choose the flavor, then servers blend specific ingredients to transform one of GODIVA’s traditional shakes into a creamy frozen treat made just for you.
