At the end of season one, Shay received a solid blow when she found out that Severide already had another woman in his life pregnant. The pair had been working together to do that for her. This might seem like a huge blow to her, but she will handle it. Danielle Gelber, an executive producer on the series, teased the following about what is next for Shay to EW:
"Shay is inherently a very strong person — the work she does every day and the things she has to see are not things the average person can handle. So Shay can handle a lot of adversity, and she’s also a person who has a very strong sense of self. So we’re not going to see a huge tailspin either way."
Shay will have some more problems this season though, and those problems will be with her best friend at the fire house. Things will get tense between Shay and Dawson during season two. Gelber teased that there will be 'a shocking experience on the job that will threaten her close friendship with Dawson for a time.' This event will happen early on during season two.
Dawson will have her own issues to deal with after the problems in her romantic life during season one. Dawson will keep her distance from Casey in a romantic sense for the start of season two. "Chicago Fire" will air season two on NBC on Wednesday nights this fall.
